Admiral Richard E. Byrd of the United States Navy flew to the North Pole in 1926 and over the South Pole in 1929. He referred to Antarctica as “The Land of Everlasting Mystery”. In reference to the North Pole he wrote: “I’d like to see that land beyond the North Pole, it is the Center of the Great Unknown.”
Regardless of where it originated, the model of a Hollow Earth managed to grow and survive. In 1818, John Cleves Symmes, Jr. published his Circular No. 1, declaring to the world that the Earth is hollow. Symmes, a veteran of the War of 1812 and unsuccessful trader, soon became maybe the most famous and successful proponent of the Hollow Earth theory. His initial vision of the Earth’s interior was like a simplified version of Halley’s multi-layered model, with the exception that Symmes’ version included huge holes at the North and South poles which allowed access to the hidden world inside. These holes, his unique addition to Hollow Earth theory, would even come to be known as “Symmes Holes.”
Based upon the size of the Earth and the force of gravity on its surface, the average density of the planet Earth is 5.515 g/cm3, and typical densities of surface rocks are only half that (about 2.75 g/cm3). If any significant portion of the Earth were hollow, the average density would be much lower than that of surface rocks. The only way for Earth to have the force of gravity that it does is for much more dense material to make up a large part of the interior. Nickel-iron alloy under the conditions expected in a non-hollow Earth would have densities ranging from about 10 to 13 g/cm3, which brings the average density of Earth to its observed value.
This so-called ‘mirage’ would look very red and ‘brazen’ in color. What makes this most curious is the fact that these explorers were extremely adept at telling their location from the layout of the stars and the position of the sun.
Liquid water discovered near Mars south pole puzzles scientists studying the orbiting Mars Express radar returns of the Mars south polar ice cap. The satellite radar returns do not give surface data in an oval area around the pole because the satellite is not in exact polar orbit over the poles. Even on earth, polar orbiting satellites have to compensate for the loss of gravity over the polar openings. If Mars is hollow, and warm air comes up out of the south polar opening from its interior heated by an inner sun, liquid water near the south polar opening would be exactly what we would expect to find at certain times of the year. The ice found is estimated to be 90% pure, and there is enough of it that if melted could cover the entire planet up to 36 ft deep. The moisture that creates this ice comes from the planet’s interior — just as it does on earth. The 3-mile deep ice that covers Antarctica and the Greenland icepack come from warm moist air that blows up out of the interior of the earth through the polar openings and condenses onto the ice packs. This is the reason why it is warmer near the poles than some distance away from them.
If MacMillan, Lt. Green and their Eskimos had continued on toward the mirage of Crocker Land and not turned back as they did, they would have eventually reached the Inner Continent of Our Hollow Earth which starts about half way through the North Polar Opening.
ICYMI: We have uploaded our complete official catalogue on to Spotify, iTunes, Amazon Music etc etc. We had to pull it down for a couple days to correct all the… release dates (I know you care about that stuff!) so please re add all your favorite songs to your playlists! Thank you for the continued support through our down time, we truly appreciate all of the feedback and motivational speeches. ❤️
Another set of scientific arguments against a Hollow Earth or any hollow planet comes from gravity. Massive objects tend to clump together gravitationally, creating non-hollow spherical objects such as stars and planets. The solid sphere is the best way in which to minimize the gravitational potential energy of a physical object; having hollowness is unfavorable in the energetic sense. In addition, ordinary matter is not strong enough to support a hollow shape of planetary size against the force of gravity; a planet-sized hollow shell with the known, observed thickness of the Earth’s crust would not be able to achieve hydrostatic equilibrium with its own mass and would collapse.
Maybe Thompson is in hiding. Maybe government forces or evil bankers made him disappear, terrified of the world-changing truths he was about to unleash. Maybe he did journey to Hollow Earth, descend into it with his helicopter backpack and is now prancing joyfully with the mammoths, and the ancient tribes, living in a paradise of pure air, warm climes and abundant food that will sustain him for another 1,657 years.
Finally, there’s the question of exactly why this would be kept secret — as with several other conspiracy theories, there seems to be no motive behind this one aside from “Let’s make the unwashed masses look really stupid!”
Hollow Earth proponents have claimed a number of different locations for the entrances which lead inside the Earth. Other than the North and South poles, entrances in locations which have been cited include: Paris in France, Staffordshire in England, Montreal in Canada, Hangchow in China, and the Amazon Rainforest.
In a trivial sense, one can always define a coordinate transformation such that the interior of the Earth becomes “exterior” and the exterior becomes “interior”. Such transformations would require corresponding changes to the forms of physical laws; the consensus suggests that such theories tend towards sophism.
Karl Unger reached our hollow earth in 1943 as a refugee from World War II in the German Submarine U-209 captained by Heinrich Brodda, and wrote a letter back to his friend in Houston, Missouri, Tawani W. Shoush, from the hollow interior of our earth.
Byrd’s controversial diary on Operation HighJump, now allegedly missing, tells of his plane being greeted by “flying machines,” a type he had never seen before. They conveyed to him that he had been allowed to enter “Agharta” (the most celebrated city in the hollow Earth) because of his high moral and ethical character. They had decided that it was time to make greater contact with the outside world to make sure we didn’t destroy this planet and their civilization with it. Eventually Admiral Byrd and his crew were guided by their hosts back to the outer world, their lives forever changed.
The late American science writer Martin Gardner brilliantly interprets Abdelkader’s mathematics in his skeptical tour of fringe science On the Wild Side (1992). In the strange new physics of Abdelkader’s world, light rays travel not in straight lines but rather in curved arcs. Like a pinwheel grazing the inside of a hollow globe, arcs of sunlight illuminate the near inner surface of the Earth, but curve around and miss the far nighttime surface. For this reason, the Sun appears to set, even though the Earth’s curvature is concave.
Europe has been a place of battles and political intrigue for centuries. As we approach a vote on the UK’s membership of the European Union, we look at what 50 writers, actors, historians, artists and comedians have said about Europe and its nations.
Rodney also tells the story of one German man, Karl Unger, who made it into the Hollow Earth during World War II. He wrote a letter back to his pals on the outer Earth to tell them he had asked the Hollow Earth inhabitants for asylum, which was granted. You can read the full letter here.
In 1937, a four engine prop plane with seasoned flyers attempted to cross the Arctic from Moscow to Fairbanks, Alaska, and were lost in the vicinity of the pole. Most likely they accidentally entered the North Polar Opening into Our Hollow Earth and then just decided to stay in the land of Eden rather than return. Review the case of the Lost Soviet Flyers here.
10/31/2017. A list member brought to my attention an article titled, “MH370: What if it were to happen in the Arctic?,” written by Mia Bennett in Cryopolitics, March, 2014 in which she shows a map she made from data from OpenFlights.org, using great circle distances of the current airline flights over the Arctic. You will notice on her map that no airline flies over the area where I have determined the North Polar Opening is located at 84.84 N Lat, 129 E Lon near Northland, Russia. The reason airlines cannot fly over the polar opening is like one airline pilot told my friend Lord Ivars, “it would be like going into outer space” because it is such a large hole in the earth that an airline jet cannot fly over it. There is not enough air over the hole to hold the airplane aloft.
One of the most controversial tales of inner-Earth-dwellers is the so-called Shaver Mystery. In 1945, Amazing Stories magazine, under the editorship of Ray Palmer, ran a story told by American writer and artist Richard Shaver, who claimed he had recently been the guest of what remained of an giant race called the Elder Race, or Titans, an underground civilization that lived in caverns under the earth.
When I contacted Mott, he told me, “I have good reason to believe that I have located Mr Thompson. He is not blind, nor has he ever been. In fact, he is passing himself off as a writer again.” Mott supplied a link to the self-published web-biography of an individual named Dallas W Thompson. This individual lived in the correct place, Bakersfield, California. Like our man, he’d spent a portion of his youth in Hawaii. He was also the author of a self-published book – a thriller called Eyes Wide Shut. A photograph shows a heavyset older man in a peach shirt staring directly in the camera in a way that strongly suggests someone who is not blind. But when I contacted him to request an interview about the Hollow Earth, he emailed back, “The Dallas Thompson you need to talk to is not me.”
